Hashtag fitfam. Believe it or not, I used to use this hashtag a lot. Most of you don’t know this but I used to have a fitness/weight loss account on Instagram. This was back in 2013.
Back then I reached my lowest ever weight (as an adult). At 52 Kg I was quite skinny.
I counted calories almost every day for over a year. On top of that I was working out between 5 to 6 times a week. Mostly doing cardio. Also tried a few different diets here and there. Just for fun and to mix things up a bit.
On Instagram the thing of the moment was clean eating. Even though it might seem a little silly if taken to extremes I did learn to read labels and in general I was eating healthy.
My account grew quite well and I had the support of other women doing the same thing.
Even though I am not 100% sure about what caused it I did stop having my period. Could have been my body not coping well with my constant calorie restriction and the amount of exercise I was doing. So always watch how your body responds when you are doing big lifestyle changes, take it easy if your body stops working as normal and go see your GP.
Regardless of that I was super invested in keeping up with my diet and fitness routine. I had never been able to keep my weight at the lower end for so long. Honestly I felt good.
I did go see my GP. Didn’t just ignore the fact that my body was not doing its’ thing.
Not sure when it happened but at some point I stopped all of it. With time I just put all the weight and more back on.
I reached my heaviest weight not long ago. About 20kg on top of my lowest weight. Now that I am writing this, it sounds so bad! But to be fair I think I’ll be happy to reach somewhere in the middle of those numbers.
Now you ask, what are you doing about it then?
The amount of times I have tried and failed to be fitter and lose the extra weight is a little high. So I need to write this down to make myself accountable this time. Sorry if this is a boring subject. Just come back for the next post if you’re not into the weight loss chat.
Funnily enough I know exactly what to do to lose weight.
Just need to keep myself in a calorie deficit. As James Smith would say #CFD (calorie f*cking deficit). It might seem like a little too much work but counting calories is the best way to do it.
To be fair I am quite good at it and MyFitnesspal is super easy to use. Even got a nice little kitchen scale to make sure I am being as accurate as possible.
Started doing it on Saturday and all is going well. As I am going to be away soon I will stop counting for a week or so and hopefully get back to it afterwards.
Counting calories is not the only thing I need to be doing. I need to move more as well.
Along with many other people I am not the biggest fan of exercise. There is only one thing I really enjoy doing and that is swimming. Therefore I thought the chances of actually doing it are a bit higher.
My search for swimming pools around me and prices was not too difficult and I have now picked one I can easily go to. About 30 minutes on a bus. Yesterday I went swimming there for the first time and quite enjoyed it. Today I’m even a little sore.
Hopefully I can keep up with eating reasonable amounts of food and moving more for a while.
No, I am not going back to using hashtag fitfam on Instagram. This is just a blog thing. Very likely to be a one post thing to be honest. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave a comment or get in touch on Instagram. I always love to hear from you.
Thank you for reading and please come back in two weeks or so for another post!
New blog posts usually out every Wednesday at 6pm (London time), unless I am travelling.
